Eighth Day

May, 28th 2014
Bismillah…
Alhamdulillah…. I have to say thanks for God so much. Without God, I knew that I am nothing. Absolutely, today I will share to you all about my experience in teaching and learning process conducted in Addeerasat Islamiah School Pattani – Thailand. Everything needs some process. That is right. Today is better than yesterday and Alhamdulillah I can do it. Thanks God. Today, I can minimize my nervous and I will try to be patient. The teaching and learning process in Addeerasat Islamiah School is going to be different rather than in Indonesia. I can feel even the facilities in the school are so minimal. In addition, the students in Adderasat still didn’t know about English even though they taught it. Moreover, they never care with Bahasa. They only speak in Melayu Pattani and Thai language as their national language. Hence, they never care either English or Indonesia. It is difficult to me to teach them if they didn’t care. However, every day when they speak in Melayu and Thai, I tried to ask what the meaning it is and I will show how to say those words in English and Indonesia. Because of it, they can learn the new words both English and Indonesia and I can know either Thai or Melayu Pattani. It is fair (laugh out loud).
In addition, I tried to use GTM (Grammar Translation Method) to teach them. Here, I attempted to combine the language, included English, Bahasa, Melayu Pattani, and sign language. It can help us to communicate each other. I was to be sure that they can understand what I said in English and Indonesia slowly as similar as me. In the class, I tried to give the material from the basic one. Although they are studying in the different level, but I saw that their skill is too low in English and Indonesia. So, I use same book for different level. Then, I thought that the teaching and learning process is still using teacher-centered. It is going to be hard for the students to understand if they have to look for by themselves. Why is it so? There are many factors. First, they didn’t have complete facilities, their interest is quite low, their knowledge, and so forth. So, in this context the teacher have to be a model for their students. Well, I thought that it is my duty to increase their interest and knowledge, especially in education, society, attitude, and also religion. Insyaallah.
